The Shanghai Nuclear Physics Center has a team of 20 employees, including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and numerous other honors such as Excellent Young Scientist Fund, Youth Top-notch Talent Support Plan, and Overseas Excellent Young Scientist Fund. There are approximately 60 graduate students and 9 postdoctoral researchers being trained here. This team has a well-balanced structure, bringing together experienced, mid-career, and early-career researchers with a strong commitment to innovation. The director of the center is Academician Prof. Yu-Gang Ma.

The Shanghai Nuclear Physics Center undertakes significant research projects funded by various ministries and commissions, including key projects and innovation center/group projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key R&D projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Strategic Priority Research Program. The center’s 2,000-square-meter laboratory is well-equipped with essential instrumentation for detector development. A high-performance computing platform with 3,000 computing nodes and 2PB of storage supports detector simulation, experimental data analysis, and theoretical calculations.

The team of the Shanghai Nuclear Physics Center has participated in numerous international cooperative experiments and has been actively involved in the R&D of large-scale domestic scientific facilities, producing significant physics results. They contribute to international collaborations such as ALICE at CERN, RHIC-STAR and sPHINEX at Brookhaven National Laboratory in the United States, and the NICA experimental program in Russia. Domestically, the center conducts nuclear physics research using facilities like the Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou and the Gamma-ray Station at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility. In antimatter detection, the team has achieved groundbreaking results, including the first observations of anti-hypertriton and anti-helium-4 particles, the first measurements of antiproton-antiproton interactions, and precision mass measurements of hypertriton and anti-hypertriton. The collective spin alignment of final-state particles has also been observed for the first time. Furthermore, significant advances in chiral anomaly experiments and theory have been made, with comprehensive studies of chiral signals and background analysis. This research has twice been selected among the "Top Ten Advances in Chinese Science" and has received the National Natural Science Award (second level). Related findings have been published in leading journals such as Science, Nature, Nature Physics, Physical Review Letters, and Physics Reports.
